Casualty confirms mystery virus in first details of explosive new boxset

The BBC has confirmed a new challenge for the ED team as the first plot details for series 41 of Casualty have been revealed. Debuting on our screens later this month, the next boxset’s title teases a central storyline concerning a “lethal” virus.

The new batch of episodes is scheduled to debut on BBC One on 25 April at 8.50pm, as the BBC has announced the new title for the season, ‘Lethal Legacy’.

The protagonists will have to race against time as the teaser line for the first episode reads: “Our heroes step up as a mystery virus sweeps across Holby”.

The remaining 11 episodes of the season will air weekly and will be available on iPlayer. Meanwhile, Casualty is gearing up to air the finale of series 40, ‘Learning Curve’, this Saturday with some sad flashforward funeral scenes revealing that a team member has died.

The identity of the character in question remains under wraps until Saturday, but the series has hinted at Faith Dean or Kim Chang as the person who sadly passes away.

In the episode, a pregnant Faith is rushed to the hospital after her water breaks and, as the baby is in an incorrect position, the team prepares for a risky delivery. Amid a thorny custody agreement, Faith’s ex Iain realises what’s important and insists that, if they can only save one of them, they save her.

As for Kim, the former resident has cast aside her dream to be a doctor following her shock exit after the inspection. When Matty overhears Kim’s dad talking to Stevie, he decides to pay her visit to check on her and is horrified to find her lying unconscious on the floor.

Learning Kim has been struggling with an eating disorder, Matty calls for help and she is taken to hospital.
