Casualty star Di Botcher was surprised by Jan Jenning’s shocking secret

Casualty star Di Botcher has admitted that she was surprised by the revelation over Jan Jenning’s secret son.

This Saturday’s episode (February 2) will see Jan’s world turned upside down when her drug dealer son Ross is admitted to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

As viewers know, Ross was violently attacked by troubled paramedic Iain – who, up until this point, had no idea of his connection to Jan.

But it turns out that it’s not just the ED team who are in for a surprise, as Di (who plays Jan) was stunned by the twist as well.

“I was very surprised,” she said to Inside Soap. “Jan is a closed book – she doesn’t want people to know about her personal life, and she doesn’t want to know about other people’s personal lives, either.

“However, I was really pleased when they told me that we’d be exploring a bit more about her.”

The revelation about Ross is just the start of the drama this weekend, as it paves the way for Jan to take shock action over her colleague Iain.

Refusing to believe Iain’s version of events over what happened at Base’s flat, Jan reports him to the police – leading him to be arrested for assault.

“The call is a knee-jerk reaction rather than a considered opinion,” Di explained. “There’s a moment in the ED where Iain’s trying to go through Ross’s bag to find the drugs and prove to Jan what’s been going on.

“But to Jan it looks like he’s attacking him again – and calling the police comes out of the fury of that moment.”
